Keskiyön Hovi, Finnish for “Midnight Court,” is an independent, story-driven perfume house where art meets a delightfully unruly imagination.
Here, haunted forests and moonlit bakeries belong in the same world. So do tenderness and mischief, familiar comforts and curious little impossibilities. Each original fragrance is an invitation to follow your imagination, revisit a memory, or discover a feeling you haven’t quite found the words for.
We celebrate every part of you: the dark, the light, and the little contradictions that make you beautifully, unmistakably yourself. Tender, strange, sweet, or a little wicked. There’s room for every version of you here.
How It All Began
I’m Natasha Washabaugh, the founder and perfumer behind Keskiyön Hovi. A reader first and perfumer second, I’ve spent more than twenty years exploring how fragrance can change the way we experience a moment.
My story began in my teens with soaps and bath products. Years later, that fascination found a home at Art of Healing, the Eastern medicine and beauty spa I owned in North Carolina. Drawing on my foundation in herbology, I created custom body treatments for private clients. Their encouragement led me to establish Roman and Grey Bath Co., a small-batch bath and body company I ran for more than six years.
Eventually, I stepped away from the industry, with no intention of returning. Apparently, my imagination had other plans.
In 2023, during a season of profound personal change, I began translating perfume compositions I had developed over the years into wax through Midnight Muse Candles. It was a way of making something tangible out of everything I was carrying: memories, feelings, and stories that needed somewhere to go.
Then came the emails. Customers wanted to wear the fragrances, to take those little worlds with them beyond the rooms where their candles burned. Those messages brought me back to perfume. Without that encouragement, I’m not sure I would have found my way here again.
Keskiyön Hovi grew from that return.
Art for Your Skin
Today, each perfume is dreamed up, formulated, and handcrafted in small, intentional batches using naturals, CO₂ extracts, essential oils, and modern aroma materials. I approach fragrance as an artistic medium, composing with scent to suggest a place, capture a mood, or give an imagined world a little substance.
The inspiration might begin in a book, a piece of folklore, a favorite memory, or a daydream that refuses to behave. But the story doesn’t end with me. Once you wear it, it becomes part of your own life.
I hope these perfumes become familiar companions: something you reach for on an ordinary morning, wear into a new chapter, or return to when you want to feel a little more like yourself.
Candles and keepsakes carry those stories beyond the bottle, bringing the atmosphere into your home and leaving you with something to hold onto.
